Vinnova has identified four societal challenges in which Sweden’s prospects for internationally leading innovativeness are considered good. These are: Information society 3.0, Sustainable Attractive Cities, Future Healthcare and Competitive Production.
Clearly, societal challenges are the starting point for many other countries’ innovation work, as well as the basis of the EU’s Strategy 2020 and European Innovation Union. The OECD is also promoting the issue of innovation strategies based on global societal challenges.
Programmes within the area
Vinnova has currently focused its strategy on four social challenges which drive the development of innovations with international potential. The choice has been based on the Agency’s mission – innovation-led sustainable growth in Sweden – and its new role – to connect and catalyse actors involved in the creation and delivery of innovations.
