EU and international co-operation

The international dimension is central to all of VINNOVA’s activities. In the first place, the national objective for sustainable growth means that Swedish industry and research must achieve and maintain excellence and competitiveness in international terms. Secondly, Swedish research and industry must work together effectively with leading international counterparts.

In all its operational fields, VINNOVA sees international competitiveness and international co-operation as integral parts of its objectives and strategies. Within the framework of its programmes, VINNOVA identifies leading international research and innovation environments and encourages collaboration with these. Any evaluation of VINNOVA’s programmes and activities also covers the international dimension.

VINNOVA has the national responsibility for providing information and advice on EU's Framework Programme for Research and Technical Development, is the national co-ordinator (NCC) for COST, is the Swedish co-ordinator for both EUREKA and Eurostars and runs the national EUREKA office.

European Research Area

The EU decided in 2000 to create the European Research Area (ERA). The purpose of the ERA is to create a coherent and better use of public instruments and resources for R&D in Europe. The aim of ERA is also to increase mobility, strengthen women's position and role in research and to make Europe more attractive to researchers from other parts of the world. VINNOVA is involved together with other research funders in the EU ERA-NET.
